And that is where the story changes.

The rocket and the Birthing Matrix that carried Superman to Earth were both the work of Lara Lor-Van and her husband, the scientist Jor-El. But the timing was different; Krypton was coming apart at the seams, and there was no time for a child to be born and packed into the rocket along with all Krypton's knowledge and lore, only a single cell from Lara. Jor-El intended to add his own genetic contribution so that their child would be conceived and incubated safely on his long journey to sanctuary. He never made that contribution. Their efforts were disrupted by the arrival of General Zod's forces, and the Last Son of Krypton was born of Lara's genetic material and the genes contributed instead by General Zod.

There was no Smallville, no Kents. The child was found, yes, by a couple who knew farming intimately; their names were Rosa and Manuel Guerra, and they were field laborers, desperately trying to make a better life for themselves and their daughter. And, after the night the rocket landed, for their son Hernan as well.

He's seen what the world is like for the weak and helpless. He's seen what happens to people who have dreams.

"No. But I know that it can be a dark world-- and perhaps it takes a man who understands that darkness to make it a better one."

Powers:

Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Superman possesses the same potential powers as an average Kryptonian. These include solar energy absorption, heat vision, super-hearing, enhanced vision throughout the electromagnetic spectrum, flight, invulnerability, superhuman stamina (limited by physiological and psychological needs to eat, drink, and sleep), super strength, superhuman speed, superhuman agility and reflexes, and super-breath.

Weaknesses:
Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Superman possesses the same potential weaknesses as an average Kryptonian. For the most part this is confined to vulnerability to magic and Kryptonite, but other Kryptonian weaknesses are also likely.
